Lab Purpose and Procedures:

The Accounting lab is in place to help all students in Accounting, Tax, and Finance classes become successful. The basic lab hours conform to the flexible schedule for our Accounting Lab courses (Acct 110, 111, 112) and our Computerized Accounting courses (Acct 032, 035, 121, 122, 141, 142, 160, and 161). However, we extend the class lab hours as much as possible in order to provide an “open” accounting lab where students can study together, and receive assistance from Instructors and Instructional Assistance with backgrounds in Accounting, Tax, and Finance curriculum, and supporting technology applications. Any student who has a valid student I.D. can use the lab. However, if a lab course is in session those enrolled have first rights to the available seats.

Students attending the lab must scan in and out with their student I.D., and must comply with all the college rules for using computer equipment, as in any other computer lab. Students are encouraged to work together, but should maintain a reasonable level of decorum and keep the noise level within reason. The Instructor or Instructional Assistant on duty will provide tutoring assistance to students on a first come first serve basis, as long as it is apparent that the student has read the text material and attempted the problems on their own. Occasionally the Instructor or Instructional Assistant will help students use the solution manual to check the answers to homework problems. However, students attempting to copy answers from the solution manuals rather than checking their answers, will be asked to leave the lab. Often the Instructor or Instructional Assistant will identify a number of students who are working on the same basic material and provide mini-lecture, discussion, demonstration or question answer sessions for the total group. All students are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn through active effort, and a willingness to share with others. This will help maintain and enhance a dynamic spirit of academic growth for all.

Lab Equipments:^Top

This is the same as all the other labs, thus whatever is started for the other labs can be stated here. It may help to add that the infrastructure in Rooms A-226 and A-228 is adequate to handle major commercial accounting programs like ACCPAC and MAS90, but that’s not necessary.
